Parent Workshops

At South Rise, we are committed to working closely with parents, carers and the wider community in supporting children’s learning needs at school and at home.

The attached timetable sets out information meetings we will be running for parents and carers during this academic year. These are open to all interested parties: parents of children at South Rise and beyond. All meetings are free of charge and are delivered in a relaxed, friendly way.

Our subject leaders have created some videos for parents that may have missed out on meetings that have taken place so far this year:

Physical Exercise/Eating Healthy

Danny Holliday Weds 19th January (Video) All Parents & Carers Parents/Carers will develop an understanding of what makes a healthy meal, ideas for school packed lunches and ways to ensure children are getting enough daily exercise in and out of school.

Speech and Language Therapy

Lauren Adamson Weds 19th Jan Weds 26th Jan Weds 2nd Feb (In Person) Reception and Nursery Parents & Carers Parents/Carers will feel confident in how to help their child at home develop key language skills. They will understand the importance of speech and how school supports their child.

Science

Lauren Staines Andrew Sambrooks Wednesday 2nd February (Video) KS1 & 2 Parents & Carers Parents/Carers will gain an insight into how Science is taught through the key stages. They will gain ideas for how to promote Science at home.

Phonics screening in Year 1

Alix Cornwell Wednesday 2nd March 2:30 (In Person) Year 1 Parents & Carers Parents/Carers will gain an understanding of how phonics is used to support children with their reading and writing development. They will understand what the Year 1 Phonics screening is and how they can help at home.

Supporting children with SATS at home Year 2

Lily Yohai Slattery/ Catherine Keel Wednesday 16th March 2.30 (In Person) Year 2 Parents & Carers Parents/Carers will gain an understanding of the expectations for children in Year 2 who will be taking their SATS in 2022. Gain insight into how to help support them at home.

Handwriting

Hazel Brown Wednesday 30th March 2.30 (In person) KS2 Parents & Carers Parents/Carers will understand how handwriting is taught at South Rise and the reason we value the importance of handwriting
